Student Visa

STUDENT VISA

The Student Visa (previously known as the Tier 4 Visa) is the UK immigration route for individuals wishing to study in the United Kingdom. It allows foreign nationals to study at a licensed educational institution in the UK for a specific period, with the possibility of working part-time during their studies and transitioning to a post-study work visa or even permanent residency, depending on the circumstances.

Eligibility Criteria for Student Visa

1.Sponsorship from a Licensed Sponsor: The student applicant should be offered by an educational institution that is recognized and approved by the UK. Such an educational institution must be approved by UKVI to sponsor the applicant, hence giving the student applicant a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. The document shows that the student is accepted for studying in a specific course by the institution.

2.Course Qualifications: It has to be a full time program at recognized institute. Only courses that may fall under, for example further education programs and some professional programs that are regarded at level 3 or higher in RQF can be undertaken.

  1. Financial Condition: Candidates have to show they can pay for their stay in the UK for the full duration of the course by both tuition fees and living costs.
  2. English language proficiency: One must prove English language proficiency through an approved test in English or by having any degree-level qualification taught in the English language. The minimum accepted level of CEFR B1 is applied in most courses, however, a certain institution or course might request a higher one.
  3. Age Requirement: The applicant must be at least 16 years old to apply for a Student Visa.
  4. Tuberculosis (TB) Test: Applicants from certain countries are required to submit a TB test certificate as part of the application process if they plan to stay in the UK for more than 6 months. A list of countries where TB testing is required can be found on the official UK government website.
