By 2025, eVisas are set to replace biometric residence permits (BRPs) and other
physical documents used to prove immigration status, such as passport stamps or
vignettes. However, the timeline for the full rollout remains unclear, which may lead to
delays in obtaining an eVisa before current BRPs expire.
What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is a digital record of a person’s immigration status, accessible via a UKVI
account created during the application process using the ID Check App. Your eVisa will
display key details about your immigration status in the UK, including:
Visa Type – which specifies the category of visa you hold (e.g. skilled migrant visa,
graduate visa, visit visa).
Expiry Date- indicating when your visa becomes invalid.
Any Conditions – Outlines any specific conditions (if applicable) that are attached to
your visa, such as work restrictions.
How to get an eVisa
In order to obtain an eVisa you must:
1. Create a UKVI Account – Visit the UKVI website to set up your account.
2. Provide Details – Enter details including your date of birth, BRP or passport details,
email, and phone number.
3. Confirm Identity – Use the ‘UK Immigration ID Check’ app to confirm your identity.
4. Access Your eVisa – Once your account is set up, you can access your eVisa online.
